Council Hill (Tempestuous Tours)

Koretia's army headquarters, located near the city marketplace, are off-limits to casual visitors. Northern mainland warriors who wish to learn more about the soldiering of the Three Lands are advised to send letters of enquiry by their chieftains beforehand, in order that a special tour of the army headquarters can be arranged for them.

Squeezed between the marketplace and the army headquarters is Council Hill, the most famous location in Southern Koretia. Koretia's government is housed here, as it has been for as long as Koretia has existed.

The appearance of the hill has changed considerably, just in my own lifetime. During my childhood, the hill was covered with trees, and there were no barriers to prevent casual passersby from entering the seat of power.

Nor are there now, unless you count the Jackal's eyes and claws. Do not treat lightly the rumors you hear of how the Jackal protects himself and his people. Countless men did during his first year of power, which is why the capital of Koretia was forced to create a new cemetery.

The Jackal, however, has upheld the long Koretian tradition of permitting free access to the government buildings by the Koretian people. You will see men, women, and children wandering up and down Council Hall to a degree that shocks Daxions and Emorians. It would shock me as well, if I hadn't raced through the council courtyard so often when I was young.

Most of the trees no longer exist; they were burned down during the Midsummer Battle and never replaced. Instead, a moat encircles Council Hill, which came in handy during a Daxion attack on the city in 991. Your credentials will be checked at the end of the moat's bridge, but only lightly, to ensure that you already passed through the main checkpoints at the gates of the city.

The hill is in the process of being given steps; at the moment, the only way to reach the top is to climb on grass. Wear boots, if you possess them; the grass can be slippery.

So can the city's pickpockets. Be wary.

[Translator's note: Daxis's attack on Koretia's capital appears in Breached Boundaries. The moat plays a starring role.]

Things to post about on Dreamwidth

Putting together a post for Tumblr, but I figure I'll probably want to back it up here, so I'm typing it here first to make copy-pasting easier 😂

[Edit] Now rebloggable on Tumblr! [/Edit]

[Edit 2] Added a few more things to this version! I'll be copy-pasting it to [community profile] newcomers, [community profile] the_great_tumblr_purge, and the new Dreamwidth Sharing community on Tumblr shortly. [/edit]

----

There's a question that may be on a lot of minds right now, that some people may be afraid to ask. Or you might not even think to ask it until after you're in deep enough that you'll feel silly for doing so. So let's get it out of the way ASAP.

"But what do I even post on Dreamwidth? Don't all posts there need to be super long and thoughtful?"

Not even a little bit! As with any social media site, posting is the blood that keeps social interactions going. Comments are also vital, but they don't happen without posts to comment on. Unfortunately, with the (I'm sorry to say) sub-par image hosting interface on Dreamwidth (that will hopefully be fixed someday, but probably is at least several years out, I'm even sorrier to say), people who are used to an image-heavy social media site might be a bit daunted by Dreamwidth's text-heavy interface. So here's some ideas of things you can post:

  • Shitposts. It is entirely fine, okay, and even wonderful to make shitposts on Dreamwidth! Since Dreamwidth isn't a content aggregation site and doesn't have built-in reblogging, you probably shouldn't expect them to go very far (unless a member of [community profile] metaquotes sees them and wants to share), but they're still welcome 👍
  • GIPs, or, Gratuitous Icon Posts! Free users get a total of 15 icons to use like reaction images and gifs, and sometimes when you upload one, you just want to share it with everyone right away! That's when you make a Gratuitous Icon Post. You can literally just make a post using that icon, and then put GIP in the text field, and boom! You're done.
  • Steal some prompts from [community profile] sunshine_challenge, [community profile] snowflake_challenge, or [community profile] thefridayfive. While you can also do any of these challenges in real time, there's nothing stopping you from doing them whenever you want, and The Friday Five has a huge number of back-posts to dig through. Just go back a few pages on the main community page, pick a day with questions you like the look of, and post those (with your answers) to your journal!
  • Another good place to steal some prompts is Questions and Questionnaires for [community profile] 3weeks4dreamwidth; Three Weeks for Dreamwidth is the annual celebration of Dreamwidth's birthday, and a lot of people come up with fun things to do for it that you can do at any time.
  • Check out [community profile] allbingo as well! While a lot of the bingo cards are made with fests in mind, there's no reason you can't pick or make a random bingo card and use the squares to come up with topics to post about. Money says the community would be down to celebrate a posting bingo with you, too!
  • Do you have a pet? Or more than one? Post about what they're doing right this second. Someone's bound to be interested in that!
  • To-do lists. Not only can it be helpful to have these actually written out, some of your followers may chime in to root for you to do them!
  • Media reviews in three sentences or less. Of course you can make them longer if you want, but if you're just looking to get a quick post out, this one might be pretty fun.
  • Something you're looking forward to! It doesn't have to be a big thing, even something like, "I can't wait for my next afternoon nap!" or "I just bought a new book and I'm really looking forward to reading it!" or "I wanna go home so I can pet my dog so bad!" Any of those would be a fine post.
  • Three (or more) Things Make a List: If you've got at least three things you've been meaning to post about, but don't have a lot to say about any of them, jumble them all together in the same post! Pretty sure this tradition dates back farther than Dreamwidth, though damned if I could say where it started.
  • Reoccurring posts are great for if you want to share something regularly and prompt discussion. Just come up with a few quick lines that you can copy-paste and share whenever, and boom! Solid posting strategy right there. There's a number of communities where this approach is fairly common, in addition to individual users.

  • It may not seem like these ideas have a lot in common, but one thing they're all good for is starting a conversation with your followers. And that's at least half the fun of Dreamwidth, IMO.

There's more ideas out there, but these should at least get you started. And if you keep it up, you'll have the hang of Dreamwidth in no time 😉

(With thanks to [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith for some of these suggestions 💖)

We're married! It was so wonderful and lovely. We picked out four different songs to play: I'm Gonna Be by The Proclaimers, Work Song by Hozier, Hopeless Wanderer by Mumford & Sons, and Smithereens by Twenty One Pilots. Our witness was the little dog (and some people who worked at the restaurant beside it) and we said our vows. The officiant asked us various questions about our relationship and each other. It was so good. <3 So yeah, I'm married! That's crazy.

I also got a new job and immediately had a mental crisis right after the orientation. Full on getting sick on myself and crying. XD; So I'll be starting therapy soon! It wasn't a job I was particularly attached to or interested in so I'm not too upset about it. We're good. We're safe. We have what we need. It's more about the wants that's the problem, haha, but we'll be okay (Will keeps reminding me that we're fine and that everything is okay, and I keep apologizing for being a basket case, and everything is good).

It looks like 21 of the 25 strawberry plants are coming up quite nicely! As are the snap peas and some of the bok choy. The beets have struggled and we may need to replant. I also recently transplanted over 40 lily bulbs from an overly full pot (I originally planted just three bulbs five years ago!) to a new front garden that's surrounding the larch tree we just planted. Which is looking so weird and strange, I'll have to take pictures. I love it. ;3; Also started some seeds indoors, including a bush bean that already has actual leaves coming in. I'm so proud; gonna have to expand the gardens again (a good problem to have!).

The three little grafted trees we drove to Portland to get are all budding and looking very pleased with themselves; I've moved them to one gallon pots they can stay in for this season as they mature.

Relatedly, I've been looking up some liberal homesteading accounts to follow. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that so much homesteading slants right but I continuously am. :\ I think because of that, a few people are being more open about their political views. I simply do not have it in me to take advice from anti-vaxxers or climate change deniers or anything like that.

Fandom activity came to a grinding halt for a couple of weeks but I think I'm coming out of that; today I've posted the rest of my art pieces for Rare Kink Buffet and am writing this post here! I also have a couple of reference photos I'd like to start turning into some sort of art piece. I don't know, it's kind of hard to focus on things right now. :\a But not really in a bad way, I think? I'm just preoccupied by other things.

It has been two months since the solar paneling was put in and not only is my electric bill not any lower, it's slightly higher. And this is partly during the time period when my computer was not working so it can't have been due to higher power usages.

This is like a week in the making because I fell hard into 'but nobody cares, Kalloway' brainweasels. *sigh*

I have mostly gotten the bathroom back together, though I expect I will be finding drywall dust forever awhile despite my best efforts. I started cleaning in the dining room and spelunked all the way to the one nesting table I have, which is the middle of a trio of which my parents have the largest and smallest. No, I have no idea how this happened. Once we figure out something to replace it, I'll return it.

In an attempt to close some tabs on my phone, I made a short list of a bunch of the tabs that have something I want to buy and am working on just... buying what I reasonably can. Which is not all of it, of course. Quite a bit is stuff like $2 games on itch and whatnot. I also really want all of Kim Hu's Jeweled Saint Prints, which frequently go on sale, but that will require purchasing frames and figuring out where to hang them and I want to at least know where they're going before I order them. I pre-ordered a Code Geass Lancelot kit, which is apparently getting a reprint soon. For some reason, I thought I had one. I have a Vincent, though, and that seems to be it. I still need to make an order from a (new/used) bookstore that has a strong Fediverse presence. They have a few Sharon Shinn books I need, and some Arthuriana.

I have a bunch of packages package-racing from around the world. We'll see how that goes. *sigh*

Arrrrrrgh, I need to advertise [community profile] moodthemeinayear and [community profile] summerofthe69 on Dreamwidth and not just Tumblr...!

Okay. Quick break to play a little Legends: Arceus (Enamorous is a huge pain to capture), then I'll go a-postin'. I can do this. I can beat my executive dysfunction about this.

Edit: Me, after twenty-five frustrating minutes of running around fruitlessly after Enamorous, without getting in so much as a single hit: "Okay, fuck this noise." *logs onto Pokémon Home* *finds someone willing to trade game-approved Enamorous for a Bloodmoon Ursaluna* *thinks about it for all of ten seconds before making the trade* Much better.

Then I offered up a shiny Eevee I'd migrated from Pokémon Go for a new Bloodmoon Ursaluna, and got one in under ten minutes. That felt a little bit like cheating, not gonna lie, but I don't regret it.

Okay, time to move some Pokémon around, then finally it'll be Posting Time.

Edit 2: Posting is done for tonight, along with some Mood Theme Bingo Cards 👀

Please call this recession the Trump Slump.

We need to put Trump’s name on this.

I, for one, like this idea and would like to see it come to fruition! Who's with me?

My leg hurts, had a physical therapy session yesterday. At least the damn scammer phone calls are less, (and only on my home phone, they NEVER call my cell) although I got one of my least favorite kind a little while ago, where they try to gaslight you into thinking you had a car accident when you didn't. It also occurs to me that since a lot of them don't speak English very well they might not understand me when I actually say "stop trying to gaslight me".
One of the gates into my apt bldg got busted late yesterday afternoon, no idea when it's going to get fixed.
