Updates

1) Intro to Sociology was successfully dropped, not long after I got home from taking the first class. That setup (the extremely packed schedule plus a super strict teacher) was not for me.

2) I've had some mild financial bullshit with college, but hopefully it's well on its way to being all sorted out.

3) All of my Speech homework for this week? I accidentally did last week 😂 Honestly, much better than the other way around.

4) In less college related news, I finally got my car back from the shop 😭 It took more than a week to get my internal fans fixed, but I am not dealing with summer around here without AC. Especially for thirty minute drives and little to no shade parking.

5) I finally finished properly outlining my first story for Sot69 this year 👀 I am pleased with what I've come up with and how I'm getting the characters into position! I'm really looking forward to actually writing it now 😃

PG&E doubled their damn rates. My landlady told me my electric bills should go down once they hook up the solar panels, which I thought they already did. There's supposed to be a bldg meeting about that Thursday, the odd thing is they're having the meeting 2 and a half hours after they normally leave.
I also got a new watch, the band on my old one broke, I was just going to have the band replaced but I found a nice watch in this second hand store that sends its money to cancer patients and they only wanted 5 dollars for it. It probably would have cost a lot more than 5 dollars if I just got a watchband at some other store. Plus, of course I'm all for helping cancer patients.
Looking forward to tonight, I'm going to the East Bay Gay Men's chorus concert!

FIC: The Royal Sanctuary: The altar (Tempestuous Tours)

There is much to look at in the sanctuary, but let us start with the altar. It recreates the altar where drugged captives were once placed before undergoing the Rite of Death, which represented their entry into a Living Death. It was at this stage that new slaves had iron masks locked securely onto their heads, which could not be removed except in the unlikely event that they survived long enough to be freed.

Here on the altar, if you wish, you may place a piece of the jackalfire tree, representing your wish that the evils of the past may be transformed by all of us in the present, bringing about rebirth.

[Translator's note: Yet again, Death Mask is the place to learn more about such matters.]

I was so out of it when I got up this morning that I turned on the wrong stove burner when I was trying to make tea and I got a bunch of smoke in my apt. that stupid smoke alarm goes off if I just turn the stove on to do anything more complicated than make tea or if I turn the oven on at all unless I open the window and turn the stove fan and box fan on full blast (and, yes, I cleaned the oven). It's a pain because I love to watch TV or listen to music when I cook and I can't do that anymore because the fans are very loud and I can't hear the TV or music at all well when they're on.
I think deviled eggs go great with barbecue ribs so I hard boiled some eggies and put them in the fridge and I will devil them later.

Dailies

I could complain about work, but what even is the point?

Limited Edition PG 1/60 Blue Frame went up for sale the other night and I ordered one. As I said to my parents, as far as mid-life crises go, model kits are pretty tame. I also have some things on the way from various weekend sales which, whoops, was not terribly expensive but sure is a lot of parcels. I still need to order paint.

My last two Suruga-ya orders rolled in after spending a bit of time in customs. One was the last Estailev kit that I needed, and certainly the biggest. I had not realized it was huge! I will possibly pick away at the related SD-styled ExeCreR kits in the future, but for now I'm pretty good. (No, I do not know why I got absolutely obsessed with these. I really hope they're pleasant builds!)

I tried out a new mobile game, Silver and Blood, but I just didn't click with it. Interesting premise, and I should theoretically like weird vampire game? But nope, after getting through the first chapters and thinking it was okay, I found myself just sort of staring at the icon the next day thinking 'actually I don't really care'.

Time to wait for Seven Knights Rebirth, I guess. And then I'm 100% out of upcoming mobile games?

Tomorrow, I clean out the fridge (not for any awful reason; it's just that time) and do a lot of general pickup if it's not too hot.

A Bit About Me

I haven't done one of these in a while and now seems like a good time. Stolen from [personal profile] a_natural_beauty, original by [personal profile] sound_of_silence

1. First Name: Amy, although all of my friends call me Nan irl.

2. Age: 39

3. Location: PNW baybeeeeee, specifically Seattle.

4. Occupation: funemployed while I figure out what my silly little brain is doing.

5. Significant Other: I'm married to [personal profile] cypher, also known in this journal as Will. We've been together since 2019 and got married this past April! I love them deeply. <3

6. Kids: None!

7. Brothers/Sisters: My sister from my mom's first marriage! I have three brothers and a sister from my dad's first marriage but we're not close; that sister died and I found out four years later. :\

8. Pets: Four cats: Penelope, a tuxedo; Spicy, a tortie; Waffle, a tortie; Nugget, a void. And my baby lil dog, Selphie, who I adopted when she was 5 weeks old and she's now 12 years old, omg, how does time fly like this? ;o;

9. List the 3 biggest things going on in your life:
3 - [community profile] battleshipex! I'm extremely excited to make this my entire personality for a while, lol.

2 - Homesteading! I thought I was done starting new things, then I started (indoors) 18 rattlesnake pole beans, 12 cranberry beans, 6 Sadie's horse beans, about a million of two different kinds of amaranths, and a bunch of zinnias, lol. Our tomatoes are loaded down with both green fruits and flowers, the 8 Sadie's horse beans that are already out are doing wonderfully (and have little bean pods forming aaaaaaahhhh), we've been eating zucchini with dinner almost every night this week, and the pumpkins are slowly growing little guys. ;3;

1 - Dealing with this ADHD diagnosis and mental health stuff. Which is going okay! Maybe!

10. Where and for what did you go to school? I dropped out of high school and got my GED, then went to a trade school and got my associate's in applied technology (a hopelessly dated degree lol), worked for a while, then went a private college and got my bachelor's in art. I only went to the private college because, as a non-traditional student (I was 26 when I started), my tuition and fees were basically cut in half.

11. Parents: My dad passed away of cancer eight years ago. I miss him every day. My mom is around and in pretty poor health (breast cancer); we live on opposite US coasts but talk almost every day.

12. Who are some of your closest friends? Will is my very bestest friend. My niece C is a very close friend, although she lives several states away. My cats and dogs, because who said friends had to be the same species. My immediately, physical circle is pretty quiet, and I will not lie, I am terribly lonely a lot of the time lmaooo.

I'm just hanging around here until I have to go to physical therapy this afternoon, looking forward to going to skeptics in the pub tonight once I hear from Dave. My legs hurt too damn much to go swimming the other day. I wish my neighbors would shut up, they're yelling at eachother, I don't know what they're arguing about and it's none of my business anyway but one of them has a very annoying voice.

Argh? Argh.

First Intro to Sociology class was today!

The professor is an out nonbinary person and very assertive about it. And very assertive about a lot of things. Like no screens in the classroom, yes this includes laptops, but also don't turn in anything handwritten, that will get an automatic zero. Also, remember that deep breathing exercise we did to start class? Now you know that you are always in control! Even if you have some sort of anxiety thing, you are still in control, because you can control your breathing! Also they have a pet peeve about loud yawning, this means you, random student who just yawned. Also also they don't do the compliment sandwich method of feedback because it takes too much time.

...Yeah. I promptly dropped the class, with plenty of time for a full refund, because I really, really don't think this teaching style would mesh well with my ADHD. And that's not even getting into the extremely punishing course schedule.

Sadly, they are also the only professor who teaches LTBTQ+ Studies, which I am currently registered for in the fall semester; I plan to meet with my academic advisor ASAP and switch that class to something else, because no, thank you, actually? No, thank you.

Had some orange blossom tea. I would have loved to get together with L. today but she was busy. Forwarded some SS threatening shit to my dad at his request and got a bracelet repaired by this super nice lady who works at one of the bookstores in my neighborhood (the jewelry stores were all closed, contrary to what it said on my cellphone). I heard today was world chocolate day so I went to my favorite cafe to get a piece of chocolate peanut butter roll cake but they stopped selling it. Booooooo! They didn't do the lemon cake anymore either, I know there's no chocolate in that but I really love that lemon cake too. Double boo! Ordered some new teas, one Yunan for me and one red chai for L. Talked to T. and confirmed that he will be picking me up Friday at 4:30 to go to the concert. I have been wanting to go to the movies lately but nothing seems to be playing around other than movies I already saw and wasn't that impressed with and the usual superhero bullshit. I heard there's something around called Fucktoys that sounded really interesting but it's not playing around here.

Tiny Plastic Souls

There often comes a point when I'm building a model kit that I realize that ah, I am being watched right back. There is a tiny plastic soul* in there of some sort, and sometimes not quite the one I'm expecting.

The last month or so of model kits/gunpla! )

*which is not to say I think that my kits are actually-alive in any way, this is more in the fun way that my aunt and I used to leave offerings of jellybeans for my grandmother's porcelain doll collection so they wouldn't eat us in our sleep.**
**at least I think we weren't serious about that.***

ADHD assessment on the 18th went well, was scheduled for the DIVA test a week later, and scored 9 out of 9 for both attention deficit AND hyperactivity, and that I had this at a young age but had "limited impairment due to compensation of external structure" which according to my doctor basically means I was pretty heavily sheltered and tended to by my mom (which is true) so I didn't get a chance to really fuck up. And I mean, looking back, yeah, I can see it? But also....:\ Now as an adult trying to navigate the world, I'm kind of...whew, boy. XD;

SO YEAH THAT'S GREAT wow, lmao, I'm so. Frustrated. And I have a bachelor's degree and I was like but I have a bachelor's degree, I was able to focus and do that, and she was like yes, in something you're interested in (art). And I was like well okay. :\ This explains a lot but I'm not super thrilled.

UHM YEAH so yeah. I have a PCP appointment on the 17th to do blood work and maybe look at blood pressure medication, but also to talk about a medication that my ADHD doc would like me to go on (that's not a stimulant, bc we gotta get blood pressure in order, plus I gotta talk to the hospital in GA for records bc I have a bigeminy and ADHD doc wants to look at those results before putting me on stimulants (although there is a non-stimulant medication that she recommended to try first). BUT she thinks my problems with staying and committing to work is agoraphobia and/or a panic disorder. Uhm. So yeah, my poor brain is a goddamn mess lmao whoops.

Will has been an absolute trooper through all though, even though I keep making terrible jokes about them being stuck with me now that we're married. XD Although they have suspected this probably longer than I have so none of this is that much of a surprise for them.

In other news, today is July fourth, I'm not feeling patriotic at all, and the fireworks aren't helping. But here's some recent harvest photos.

A couple of zucchini and 2 quarts of cherries. <3

MXTX stuff

I finally finished listening to the main story of MDZS! There was some delay for various reasons, mostly related to my car's failing fan motor, but I managed to get to the end 🎉 (Minus the extras. But those can wait.)

Definitely love the story; don't know if I have any particular fandom feels about it, though. SVSSS still has my heart in that regard.

Speaking of, a stray thought: I'm about 90% sure that the "Immortal" part of "Proud Immortal Demon Way" is specifically referring immortal human cultivators, and thus Binghe's heritage. He is both immortal in the human cultivator sense, and a demon. I'm obviously not one hundred percent sure here, but it makes enough sense in context that it just kinda... tickles my brain occasionally when I see alternate interpretations.

Anyway, provided I can find a way to rip my Audible library, I'll probably listen to TGCF next, but we'll see what happens.

A quick entry before I go to my favorite Irish pub:
I had a great time yesterday with my friends, we went swimming and had yummy Korean barbecue chicken wings and beef noodles and great drinks and ice cream and then hung out at their house and watched Rick and Morty and listened to music.
I love America, I just FUCKING HATE TRUMP.

There's been a change in plans, my friend is supposed to come over at 4 today to go swimming and then we're going to go out to dinner and to that place with the flaming drinks instead of tomorrow. Also they're doing one of those free lunch things in my apt bldg at 1. If they're gonna raise the damn rent and not fix elevators and things I'm gonna at least get free food out of them.

So here goes:

June )

July's plans are to survive being too fucking hot.

There is another part to the challenge but I'll worry about that later, if at all.

I was going to go out tonight but I'm too tired and I haven't even started cleaning the bathroom yet. I did get lots of groceries, also got a text from a friend while I was in the grocery store to join her for the afternoon of the Fourth of July at this bar she took me to before that has these flaming drinks. That place was really fun, nice friendly crowd and bartenders. When they did the flaming drinks we started going "Fire! Fire! Fire!" like Beavis.
